ALCO UP Class 4000 4-8-8-4 “Big Boy” Locomotive

In celebration of the Union Pacific Railroad restoring Big Boy #4014 to operation, we are excited to offer this iconic locomotive here “in the brick” for you to build and enjoy on your home layout. The legendary Big Boy is a massive 4-8-8-4 steam locomotive, one of the largest ever built, that was manufactured by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) between 1941 and 1944 for the Union Pacific Railroad. 25 of these beasts were built to haul freight over the Wasatch mountains between Ogden, Utah and Green River Wyoming, beginning their service just before the United States entered World War II.

Due to the high level of detail and the immense size of this model, R56 or greater curves are required to run this locomotive.
