GE AC4400CW

The GE AC4400CW was a six-axle AC traction locomotive built by General Electric between 1993 and 2004. Power was provided by a GE 16 cylinder 7FDL-16 prime mover, which could produce a consistent 4,400 horsepower in any weather conditions thanks to its new AC traction motor technology. The adoption of AC traction motors allowed General Electric to finally flip the script on EMD, which had been the undisputed king of locomotive manufacturing in North America for decades. The AC4400CW offered railroads impressive performance with low maintenance costs due to component standardization, and by quickly scaling up production to meet demand, GE was able to finally dethrone EMD for good. Over 3,500 units were manufactured and most still remain in active service to this day, with many having their lifespan further extended by rebuild projects.

Great care has been taken to capture road specific details like number board and headlight placement. The locomotive is designed to be motorized with a Powered Up Hub and two Large motors. This requires a custom program via the Powered Up app or pybricks. We have also made provisions to run a single Large motor using the Crocodile locomotive control profile included with the Powered Up App by default. For more advanced users, the model has been engineered with space for the installation of a Blunami 4408 control board and 28mm speaker for onboard sound.

This model requires a set of 8 flanged and 4 blind #6 (MS) wheels which must be purchased separately. An additional manual is included with instructions for assembling both trucks with Kadee 743Z couplers available for purchase from Brick Model Railroader.
